This map displays vessel location information from a database that combines logbook data from the Maury, Townsend, and Census of Marine Life logbook projects as well as some transcriptions of British Southern Whale Fishery logbooks. Depending on the original source, the data may include locations for all log entries or only for days when whales were sighted or struck.

Colors indicate species of whale.

Large colored circle: location where one or more whales were struck and tried
Small colored circle: location where whales were sighted
Small gray circle: location where no whales were encountered
